Fraud and Scam Alert

Business solicitation and recruiting scams

Evolution Petroleum has received several calls and emails from members of the public seeking clarification of certain alleged transactions. Most of these supposed transactions appear to be contracts for “Diluent Adhesive  solution (DPs)” products in which Evolution Petroleum supposedly obligates itself to pay money to someone. Some of the supposed contracts even appear to have been signed by officers of Evolution Petroleum, though they bear false and fraudulent signatures that do not resemble any actual signatures of Evolution personnel. In most instances, we have been told the transactions originated when someone solicited individuals active on various online job boards to undertake certain steps in the hopes of eventually being paid by Evolution Petroleum for their efforts.

Evolution Petroleum does not solicit contracts over job boards and does not enter into, has never entered into, and will never solicit you to enter into, contracts for or regarding Diluent Adhesive Solution products or any other contract through a job board, instant message, or other impersonal solicitation. Either the individuals approaching Evolution Petroleum and demanding that it fulfill these supposed agreements, or the individuals that solicited those people to enter into these agreements, are intending to defraud Evolution Petroleum into paying money for matters that fall far outside Evolution Petroleum’s normal course of business.

What to do…

  • Do not respond to unsolicited business propositions or job offers from people or e-mail addresses you do not know or trust.
  • Do not disclose your personal or financial details to anyone you do not know or trust or on a website you do not trust. If you have disclosed this information to somebody you do not know or trust or to a website you do not trust, consider reporting the incident to your local law enforcement agency.
  • Be on the lookout for suspicious signs – e.g., communications from non-Evolution e-mail addresses (e.g., from a gmail.com address or a misspelled Evolution email address, such as evolutionpetroluem.com); poor use of English, numerous spelling and grammatical errors; and requests for sample products or money.

Our position…

Evolution Petroleum’s name and identity are being used fraudulently in these instances. While we sympathize with anyone who has lost money to online scammers, Evolution Petroleum Corporation cannot accept any responsibility for these incidents of fraud.

FAQs

There have been incidents where fraudsters pretend to recruit on behalf of Evolution or where people claim to work for or be affiliated with Evolution.

One way to recognize their scam emails is to closely check the Evolution email addresses being used or referenced, because these emails usually are not sent from a genuine Evolution email account (i.e., they often do not end with “@evolutionpetroleum.com” but instead come from “yahoo.com” or “gmail.com”). Very often, they also use poor English, including many misspellings and grammatical errors, and may request sample products upfront from the recipient.

We recommend that you do not respond to these scam emails or any email you do not trust and never disclose your personal or financial details to anyone you do not know. If you receive such proposals, we advise you to contact your local law enforcement agency and provide them with all information you may have from the senders.

Recruitment Scams

Take care to avoid fraudulent communications claiming to be sent on behalf of Evolution Petroleum. Recent incidents appear to have involved individuals falsely soliciting supply contracts on behalf of Evolution. We are told these individuals, claiming to either work for or be affiliated with Evolution Petroleum, notify other individuals that their qualifications were found suitable to work as a contracted supplier (local or expatriate) for Evolution Petroleum, and solicit an upfront product sample in exchange for valuable future benefits such as a substantial upfront payment to establish an office, a dollar-per-liter commission price on future product supply, a sizable monthly salary with frequent promised increases, expense and travel reimbursements, and a new company provided vehicle.

Please note that Evolution Petroleum does not solicit contracts or post open employment positions on public websites (nor do any of the organizations that recruit on our behalf). Evolution will also never ask for sample products, money, or payments from applicants at any point in the recruitment process. All individuals who are successful in gaining an offer of employment from Evolution, whether directly or indirectly, are always required to go through a formal recruitment process.

Please note that these communications are fraudulent. They do not originate from Evolution, from Evolution’s management or board of directors, nor are they associated with Evolution’s recruitment process.
